    Habit
    Much-branched shrub or small tree, 1–5 m. tall; branches pale to medium brown with brown lenticels; youngest shoots pubescent, soon glabrous.
    Leaves
    Leaves drying pale green or ± darker above, trifoliolate; petiole (2–)5–9 cm. long, slender, puberulous or glabrous; petiolule of terminal leaflet 2–7 mm. long, of lateral 0–3 mm. long; leaflets discolorous, drying brown or brownish green above, subequal or laterals 1/2 to 4/5 length of the terminal one, elliptic or elliptic-oblong, (1.5–)5–9 cm. long,(0.9–)2.3–4.2 cm. wide, ± rounded to shortly obtusely acuminate at apex, terminal one cuneate at the base, laterals asymmetrically rounded, entire or crenate or toothed for upper 1/2 or 2/3, ± thin, glabrous or with few hairs on nerves beneath; hairy domatia sometimes present; lateral nerves in ± 7 pairs, rather inconspicuous.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescences slender, (3–)8–12(–17) cm. long inclusive, unbranched or with 1–2 short branches, the axes quite glabrous, puberulous or in some specimens pubescent; cymules 3–9-flowered, somewhat spaced, subsessile; peduncles (1–)2.5–5.5 cm. long, pedicels 1–1.8 mm. long.
    Flowers
    Flowers white or yellow; sepals ± round, outer 1 mm. diameter, inner 1.2–1.5 mm. diameter; petals spathulate, 1 mm. long, 0.5–0.8 mm. wide, long white-ciliate at base.
    Filaments
    Filaments 1.5 mm. long, glabrous.
    Fruits
    Fruit red, globose, 5.5 mm. diameter.
    Habitat
    Deciduous bushland, Acacia, Premna, Commiphora, Euphorbia ‘light woodland’, ‘Makonde thicket’ on orange sand, sometimes on limestone, rocky hillsides etc.; 350–1400(–?1560) m.
