    Habit
    Scrambling or ± erect shrub with silvery grey bark, usually flowering when leafless or with leaves very undeveloped (but occasionally with developed leaves), 0.6–3 m. tall; branches yellow-brown, fleshy, later darker and ± brittle, wrinkled when dry; youngest parts pubescent but soon glabrous.
    Leaves
    Leaves slighdy fleshy, ovate, oblong or elliptic, 1.5–6 cm. long, 1.2–4 cm. wide, obtuse or subacute at the apex, attenuate into the petiole, glabrous, irregularly and coarsely serrate or crenate-dentate; petioles 3–5 cm. long.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescences 5–10(–13) cm. long on short or very short axillary shoots nodulated by petiole-bases, resembling a labiate with dense whorls of flowers, the nodes ± 7 mm. apart; rhachis rich purple and ± fleshy; pedicels purple, 2–6 mm. long.
    Buds
    Buds glandular-pubescent outside.
    Calyx
    Calyx greenish to purple, 2–4 mm. long; lobes broadly triangular, 1–1.5 mm. long.
    Corolla
    Corolla white and blue, pale green or dull yellow-green with pinkish purple lip; tube curved, 3–4 mm. long; lobes declinate, 8 mm. long, 3.5 mm. wide, with mauve lip darker near the tip, other lobes white or all pale mauve.
    Stamens
    Stamens erect and arcuate, exserted 1.2–1.3 cm. Filaments white or greenish with purple anthers.
    Style
    Style white or greenish with a mauve stigma.
    Fruits
    Fruit subglobose-obovoid, 9 mm. long, 8 mm. wide, (2–)3–4-lobed when dry.

    Acacia desert thornbush, dry semideciduous thicket and succulent savanna, Adansonia-Cordia-Sterculia-Commiphora-Cassia-Platycelyphium-Combretum, etc., bushland and also forest and Euphorbia /grassland margins; 450–1150 m.
