    Habit
    Dioecious shrub, probably predominantly rheophytic, 1–4 m tall, with glabrous stems; bark chestnut, ± flaky.
    Leaves
    Leaves tending to be held suberect, narrowly oblong-elliptic, 2.5–6.3 cm long, 0.7–1.9 cm wide, subacute but actual apex usually rounded, cuneate at the base, glabrous, gland-dotted; margin thickened and slightly revolute; petiole ± 3 mm long.
    Inflorescences
    Fascicles 1–5-flowered; pedicels ± 4 mm long, glabrous or pubescent; bracteoles triangular, 0.5 mm long, ferruginous pubescent.
    Calyx
    Sepals rounded oblong, 2–2.5 mm long, 1.8–2 mm wide, convex, ciliate, faces glabrous but with very conspicuous gland dots.
    Corolla
    Petals white or pinkish, oblong-elliptic, 3.5–5 mm long, 2–3 mm wide, glabrous except for a few apical ciliae.
    Stamens
    Stamens at least 40, filaments 2–2.5 mm long; anthers 0.8 mm long.
    Pistil
    Style 3 mm long, absent in male flower; stigma peltate.
    Fruits
    Fruits dark purple, 7–11 mm diameter, very closely glandular-pustulate, crowned by ± erect sepals; seeds solitary, subglobose–comma-shaped, 8 mm long, 7.5 mm wide.
    Habitat
    On rocks at high water mark of river, rocky flood bed between low and high water marks; (5–)800–1000 m
