    Habit
    Annual herb 30-120 cm tall; stems much branched, the branches slender and ascending, shortly pubescent with simple and asymmetrically T-shaped hairs.
    Leaves
    Leaves elliptic, 2.5-20 cm long, 0.8-8.5 cm wide, base cuneate or the proximal leaves cuneate-attenuate into a petioloid base, margins serrate, apex short-acuminate, apiculate, sparsely scabridulous-pubescent, glandular with sessile glands beneath.
    Capitulum
    Capitula subsessile at the nodes on long arching branches, in seemingly spicate and secund scorpioid cymes; stalks of individual capitula very short, ascending-pubescent; involucre urceolate, 4.5-7 mm long; phyllaries in 3-4 series, pale green with darker tips, outer and medium erect or somewhat recurving, linear-lanceolate, sparsely pubescent especially on margins in lower part, 2.5-6 mm long, attenuate-pungent.
    Flowers
    Corolla purple to pale mauve, rarely cream, 3-6 mm long, lobes 1-1.5 mm long, glabrous.
    Fruits
    Achenes cylindric or slightly turbinate, 1.4-2 mm long, 4-5-angled, shortly ascending-pubescent on the faces, glabrous on the angles; outer pappus of small triangular scales 0.1-0.2 mm long, inner pappus whiter, purple-tipped, 3-5 mm long.
    Habitat
    On or around rock outcrops or in rocky gorges in the bushland/woodland belt; 850-1700 m
