    Habit
    An erect subshrub to c. 1.8 m. tall, from a ?woody rootstock; indumentum silvery-grey sericeous, hairs appressed T-shaped.
    Stem
    Stems several, simple or sparingly branched above, strict, leafy, striate, tomentose.
    Leaves
    Leaves discolorous, numerous, ± appressed-ascending; petiole to c. 5 mm. long, narrowly winged; lamina variable, up to 6 x 4 cm., obovate to cuneate-oblong or deltoid, coarsely toothed about the apex, narrowly cuneate to the base, upper surface green drying olive-green, glabrescent, lower surface densely silvery-grey sericeous with a prominent venation.
    Capitulum
    Capitula numerous in moderately dense paniculate clusters; clusters 2–4 cm. across, terminal on branches; capitula stalks mostly 1–3 mm. long.
    Involucre
    Involucres 4–6 x 3–4.5 mm., oblong-cylindric.
    Phyllaries
    Phyllaries 4–5-seriate, appressed imbricate, silky-silvery pubescent or glabrescent; the outer phyllaries c. 1 mm. long, triangular-ovate; the inner to c. 5.5 mm. long, narrowly oblong-oblanceolate, rounded mucronulate.
    Florets
    Florets 4–6 per capitulum.
    Corolla
    Corolla mauve, fading to whitish, 6–7 mm. long, tubular below with a campanutate limb.
    Fruits
    Achenes 2.5–3 mm. long, narrowly turbinate-cylindric, somewhat 3–4 angular, c. 10-ribbed, hispid on ribs, glandular between; outer pappus of copious readily caducous setae, 1–2 mm. long; inner of copious sordid more persistent barbellate setae, to c. 6 mm. long.
