- Habit
- Annual erect herb 5–12(–40) cm. high, entirely covered with bulbous-based hairs which are often surrounded with cystoliths; stems simple or slightly branched, slender.
- Leaves
- Leaves oblong to oblanceolate-oblong, 0.25–3.5 cm. long, 0.6–11 mm. wide, obtuse at the apex, truncate at the base; midrib visible beneath.
- Flowers
- Flowers small, subsessile, in scorpioid cymes with a few leafy bracts in lower part only.
- Calyx
- Calyx deeply divided into linear-lanceolate to oblong lobes 1.5–2 mm. long, slightly accrescent in fruit, hispid, some of the hairs hooked.
- Corolla
- Corolla white or blue, glabrous, with slight constriction between the tube and lobes in dry state; tube cylindrical, 1–1.7 mm. long; lobes oblong to obovate, 0.6–0.8 mm. long, 0.4–0.6 mm. wide; swellings minute, papillate.

- Style 1.5 mm. long; stigma ± clavate.

- Nutlets dark brown or black, 4 or often reduced to 1, compressed-ovoid, 1.2–1.4 mm. long, 0.8–1 mm. wide, shining, narrowly winged at the apex; areole basal, pale.
