Aspleniaceae, Henk Beentje. Flora of Tropical East Africa. 2008

    Type
Type: Tanzania, Morogoro District: Uluguru Mts, Lukwangule plateau, Goetze 283 (B!, holo.)
    Habit
    Epiphyte.
    Rhizomes
Rhizome creeping, with dense dark red-brown triangular-ovate entire rhizome scales to 6 × 1.3 mm, long-acuminate into a hairtip.
    Leaves
Fronds spaced, erect, to 18 cm long.
    Stipes
Stipe 4.5–7 cm long, near base with dense scales similar to those of rhizome, higher mixed up with linear-lanceolate scales, ciliate near base.
    Leaf lamina
    Lamina elongate-triangular, to 11 × 4.5 cm, 2-pinnate to 3-pinnatifid, gradually decrescent towards apex.
    Pinnae
Pinna in 6–11 pairs, opposite or alternate, elongate-triangular, to 2.5 × 1–1.3 cm. %Pinnules deeply 3-partite to 3-lobed on lower pinnae, entire higher up, 3–4-dentate at apex, with lanceolate lacerate-dentate scales.
    Rachis
Rachis with scales similar to those of stipe (2 kinds).
    Sori
Sori 1–3 per lobe, linear, 1.5–5 mm long.
    Indusium
    Indusium 0.5 mm wide.
    Ecology
    Epiphyte, among lichens; 2400 m
    Conservation
    Widespread; least concern (LC)
    Note
Close to A. actiniopteroides but with enough differences to keep the two separate. The absence/presence of glands in A. actiniopteroides is too variable to use, but the differences in size, the presence of two types of scales in goetzei, the slight difference in pinnule apex (with pinnule apices more deeply dissected in actiniopteroides) warrant separation. Pichi Sermolli in B.J.B.B. 55: 135 (1985) and Chaerle in his unpublished thesis, page 155, include several specimens from Rwanda and Congo-Kinshasa under this name. I have not seen the cited specimens ( Bamps 2963a, Bequaert 3711, Christiaensen 2238, Van der Veken 8864).
