      1. This genus is accepted, and its native range is Japan (S. Kyushu) to Taiwan, S. China.

    Perennial or annual herbs, at least sometimes tuberous and stoloniferous, with simple hairs
    Leaves
    Leaves toothed, petiolate
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence thyrsoid, with cymes up to 3(-4)-flowered, or racemoid
    Calyx
    Calyx 5-lobed, lobes subequal, often ± spinescent
    Corolla
    Corolla strongly 2-lipped, 4-5-lobed (1/3, 2/3), purple to white, posterior lip long, hooded
    Stamens
    Stamens not exserted from corolla, thecae weakly distinct
    Stigma
    Stigma-lobes slightly unequal
    Fruits
    Nutlets truncate or subtruncate at apex, glabrous or sometimes hairy.
    Note
    One to perhaps five species. Matsumurella is often included in Galeobdolon or in Lamium.  The three Chinese species, described under Galeobdolon, G. szechuaense C.Y. Wu, G. yangsoense Sun and G. kwangtungense C.Y. Wu, may be more closely related to Matsum
    Ecology
    In forests, hill slopes and wet sites
