    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence a terminal raceme. Pedicels suberect, bibracteate. Lower bracts leafy, decreasing towards the apex.
    Flowers
    Flowers 4–merous.
    Calyx
    Sepals equal, green, glabrous on both sides or scaly outside, united for 0·2–0·4 of their length, obtuse, rounded or nearly so at the apex, entire, persistent.
    Corolla
    Corolla cup–shaped, mostly glabrous outside, inside pillose, at least in the tube; lobes imbricate, suborbicular, rounded, entire, spreading.
    Stamens
    Stamens exserted, inserted just below the corolla mouth or somewhat lower; anthers shorter or longer than the filaments, oblong or nearly so, deeply cordate at the base, rounded to apiculate at the apex, glabrous, introse; cells parallel, discrete, dehiscent throughout by a longitudinal slit.
    Pistil
    Pistil glabrous; ovary narrowly ovoid to oblong, laterally compressed, rounded or shortly bilobed at the apex, with a disk–like base, 2–celled; style persistent; stigma capitate.
    Fruits
    Capsule oblong, laterally compressed or not, fairly bilobed, with an indented line along the line of dehiscence, bivalved; valves tom at the apex, with a revolute margin being the tom septum, glabrous inside; dry placentae with seeds in valves.
    Habit
    Undershrubs or herbs with woody base, glabrous or bearing stellate hairs.
    Leaves
    Leaves opposite, sessile.
