    Flowers hermaphrodite in 1–several-flowered inflorescences mostly appearing lateral (actually terminal) on one side of the stem at successive nodes or rarely appearing terminal, often ± sessile
    Calyx
    Calyx-tube turbinate, sometimes ribbed; tubular part of free limb short; lobes 5, rather large, obtuse, contorted and overlapping to the right
    Corolla
    Corolla rather large, the tube funnel-shaped to campanulate, constricted at the base, thickly silky outside, glabrous inside save for a densely barbate portion at base in constriction; lobes 5, short and broad, overlapping to the left
    Anthers
    Anthers ± sessile, inserted in the throat of the corolla; pollen grains single
    Pistil
    Ovary obconic, 2(–3)-locular; styles clavate, sulcate, the stigma scarcely separating into 2 lobes; ovules numerous, immersed in vertical rows on the 2 placentas

    Fruit oblong-ellipsoid, many-seeded; seeds reticulate and wavy-rugulose.

    Calyx
    Calyx tube turbinate, sometimes ribbed; limb-tube short; lobes 5, rather large, obtuse, contorted and overlapping to the right.
    Corolla
    Corolla rather large; tube funnel-shaped to campanulate, constricted at the base, thickly silky outside, glabrous inside except for a densely barbate portion at base in the constriction; lobes 5, short and broad, overlapping to the left.
    Anthers
    Anthers ± sessile, inserted in the throat of the corolla; pollen grains single.
    Ovary
    Ovary obconic, 2(3)-celled; ovules numerous, immersed in vertical rows on the 2 placentas; pollen presenter clavate, sulcate, scarcely separating into 2 lobes, included in the corolla tube.
    Fruits
    Fruit oblong-ellipsoid, many-seeded; seeds reticulate and wavy-rugulose.
