    Habit
    Perennial; caespitose. Butt sheaths persistent and investing base of culm; with fibrous dead sheaths. Culms erect; 12-25 cm long. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 2-5 mm long. Leaf-blades flat; 3-6.5 cm long; 1-2.5 mm wide. Leaf-blade apex obtuse.

    Inflorescence a panicle. Panicle open; ovate; 4-11 cm long. Primary panicle branches spreading. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

    Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets elliptic; laterally compressed; 2.5-3.5 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Floret callus glabrous.

Upper glume elliptic; 1.1 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; much thinner above; with hyaline margins; 1-keeled; keeled below; 3 -veined. Upper glume apex obtuse.
    Florets
    Fertile lemma elliptic; 2.4-3 mm long; without keel; 3 -veined. Lemma lateral veins less than two thirds length of lemma. Lemma surface pubescent; with clavate hairs. Lemma apex erose; obtuse. Palea keels smooth.
    Fruits
    Hilum elliptic.

    Spikelets 1-flowered, narrowly elliptic, at length gaping, 2.5–3.5 mm. long, light green, the rhachilla not produced beyond the floret; glumes subequal, a little longer than the lemma, the lower narrowly elliptic and (1–)3-nerved, the upper lanceolate-elliptic and 3-nerved; lemma 2.4–3 mm. long, 3-nerved, appressedly pubescent, denticulately obtuse.
    Habitat
    Upland moor, moist soil beside stream; 3580–4000 m.
