Perennial. Culms rambling; 30-40 cm long. Ligule a fringe of hairs. Leaf-blades lanceolate; 5-8 cm long; 5-10 mm wide.

Inflorescence a panicle; embraced at base by subtending leaf. Panicle open; ovate; 7-15 cm long. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

Spikelets comprising 1 basal sterile florets; 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets ovate; dorsally compressed; obtuse; 2-2.2 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret.

Basal sterile florets male; with palea. Lemma of lower sterile floret elliptic; 2-2.2 mm long; herbaceous; acute. Fertile lemma ovate; 1.5 mm long; coriaceous; without keel. Lemma margins involute. Lemma apex obtuse. Palea coriaceous; 2 -veined.
