    Leaflets with main lateral veins opposite, sub-opposite or alternate, domatia absent.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence a terminal lax panicle.
    Calyx
    Calyx campanulate or tubular, variously lobed.
    Corolla
    Corolla slightly bilaterally symmetrical, infundibuliform, 2-lipped, the upper lip 2-lobed, the lower lip 3-lobed.
    Stamens
    Stamens 4, didynamous, included.
    Sporangia
    Thecae divergent.
    Staminodes
    Staminode present.
    Disc
    Disk cupular to annular.
    Ovary
    Ovary of 2 locules with many ovules.
    Stigma
    Stigma 2-lobed, flattened.
    Fruits
    Fruit long, terete, often twisted; septum thick, cavity with alternate notches accommodating the ellipsoid seeds, the membranes of which are flush to the septum surface.

    Leaves opposite, imparipinnate.
    Inflorescences
    Panicles terminal, many-flowered large.
    Calyx
    Calyx campanulate or tubulate, irregularly 2–5 lobed.
    Corolla
    Corolla slightly zygomorphic, pink; tube infundibuliform, lobes patent.
    Androecium
    Stamens 4, didynamous inserted in the corolla tube, included; anther-thecae divergent; staminode 1, more or less developed.
    Disc
    Disk entire or 5-lobed.
    Ovary
    Ovary linear-oblong, 4-angled, bilocular.
    Ovules
    Ovules numerous, 2-seriate per locule.
    Fruits
    Capsule longly linear-cylindrical.
    Seeds
    Seeds numerous, winged, arranged alternately along both sides of the septum.
