    Type
Type: Cameroon, West Buea, Preuss 1039 (B†, holo.)
    General
Very similar to P laxiflorus, differing in the following characters
    Leaves
    Leaves often viscid to touch
    Inflorescences
Cymes sessile, very rarely shortly pedunculate, 4–6-flowered; peduncles absent or up to 2 mm long; pedicels up to 10 mm long
    Calyx
Fruiting calyx 6–9 mm long, with a lanceolate to obovate posterior lip
    Corolla
Corolla 10–22 mm long; anterior lip (5–)6–11 mm long.
    Ecology
Forest margins or clearings, bamboo zone; 1200–2700 m
    Conservation
    Least concern; widely distributed
    Note
Some populations from N Tanzania and S Kenya have a dark blue anterior lip which is more ascendent than in most of the pale forms. There seems no clear discontinuity to allow recognition of these forms. Superficially similar to P. sylvestris which differs in having the posterior corolla lip much shorter than the anterior and pale yellow rather than red sessile glands. Also likely to be confused with P. longipes which occupies drier habitats and usually has more rounded leaf apices and shorter pedicels. However, in T 3 the leaf apex character displays more of a continuum. See note following 14. P. longipes.
