    Habit
    Suffruticose herb with 1 to many ± erect stems 25–60(150) cm tall from a woody rootstock; stems with few to numerous long appressed or ascending coarse buff(-golden) hairs, with a line of inconspicuous short crisped hairs in opposite furrows.
    Leaves
    Leaves elliptic to broadly ovate, 2–6 × 1–3.8 cm, base cuneate to rounded, apex acute to obtuse, surfaces with rather sparse ascending to spreading hairs, most numerous on margin and veins beneath; lateral veins 3–4 pairs; petiole to 4 mm long.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence of 1–3-flowered axillary cymes in upper half of stems; bracts foliaceous but gradually reduced upwards; bracteoles linear to oblanceolate or narrowly elliptic, 5–21 × 0.5–4.5 mm.
    Calyx
    Anterior calyx lobe ovate to elliptic, 12–20.5 × 7.5–10.5 mm, base attenuate to rounded, margin entire, apex emarginate or acute, indumentum as leaves; posterior lobe larger, 16–23.5 × 10–14.5 mm, apex acute to obtuse; lateral lobes 6.5–13 mm long.
    Corolla
    Corolla 37–45 mm long, pale blue to mauve or white, glandular-pubescent externally; tube broadly funnel-shaped above attachment point of stamens, 16–21 mm long; abaxial lobe 13–19 × 11–13.5 mm, offset by 9–12 mm; lateral lobes 10.5–13.5 × 9.5–11.5 mm; adaxial lobes 10–12 × 7–8.5 mm.
    Stamens
    Stamens attached 7–12 mm from base of corolla tube; filaments 17–22.5 mm long; anthers 2.5–3.3 mm long; lateral staminodes 3–7 mm long, (sparsely) pubescent towards base, antherodes to 1 mm long.
    Ovary
    Ovary glabrous; stigma subcapitate, 0.4–0.7 mm long.
    Fruits
    Capsule 9–13.5 mm long, glabrous.
    Seeds
    Seeds (–immature) c.5 mm long and wide.
    Distribution
    Also in Burundi and W Tanzania.
    Ecology
    Miombo woodland and dambos on sandy soil; c.1200 m.
    Conservation
    Conservation notes: Scarce in the Flora region with only three records known; assessed as Least Concern in F.T.E.A.
