    Habit
    Erect annual 20–60 cm tall, sometimes developing a few weak branches from near the base, densely pilose.
    Leaves
    Leaves 1-foliolate; leaflet 2–4(5) × 0.6–1.2(1.5) cm, oblong-lanceolate to oblong-elliptic, pilose on both surfaces; petiole 2–5 mm long; stipules 0.
    Inflorescences
    Racemes sessile, 4–20 cm long, densely many-flowered, with a few flowers developing in the axils below; bracts leaf-like, 6–12 mm long, linear-lanceolate; bracteoles 0.
    Calyx
    Calyx 5–8 mm long, densely silky pilose; upper lobes narrowly triangular-lanceolate, 2.5–4 times as long as the tube.
    Corolla
    Standard elliptic, pale yellow, red marked, silky tomentose outside; wings ± as long as the keel; keel 6–7 mm long, subangular, with a narrow twisted beak.
    Fruits
    Pod sessile, 6–8 × 4–5 mm, shortly ovoid-ellipsoid, pilose, 4–8-seeded.

    Habit

    Stem densely pilose with long fine mostly spreading slightly crimped hairs.

    Leaves 1-foliolate; leaflets elliptic to elliptic-oblong, up to 20–42 mm. long and 6–12 mm. wide, bluntly pointed,thinly pilose on both surfaces; petiole ± 3–5 mm. long.

    Stipules absent.

    Racemes sessile, dense, ± 4–24 cm. long, many-flowered, with usually a few other flowers clustered in the axils below; bracts linear-lanceolate, 5–15 mm. long, usually longer than the flowers; bracteoles absent.
    Calyx
    Calyx 6–8 mm. long, with the tube protracted on the lower side, densely pilose; upper lobes narrowly attenuate-triangular, ± 2–4 times as long as the tube.
    Corolla
    Standard elliptic, dull yellow, veined red and densely pilose outside; wings nearly as long as the keel; keel bent at right-angles in the lower half, with a narrow practically straight twisted beak, 6–7 mm. long.
    Fruits
    Pod sessile, shortly ellipsoid, up to 7–9 mm. long and 5 mm. across, pilose, 4–6-seeded.
    Seeds
    Seeds oblique-cordiform, ± 2–2·5 mm. long, without a conspicuous aril, smooth, brown or mauvish tinged.
    Habitat
    Brachystegia woodland, usually on sandy soils, also wet depressions, roadsides and a weed of cultivated ground; 900–1500 m.
