Differs from I. emarginella in the more slender less erect unridged floriferous stems, which are usually short shoots on older stems showing next year’s buds in fruiting specimens.

Leaflets 3–5 or rarely 7.
Inflorescences
Inflorescence rarely over 2 cm. long, with up to 20 flowers, its axis hardly ridged and hardly thicker than the scarcely reflexed fruiting pedicel.
Indumentum
Indumentum of calyx relatively sparse, often white.
Corolla
Standard caducous.
Stamens
Stamens ± 4 mm. long.
Fruits
Pod up to 28 mm. long.
Habitat
Deciduous woodland; 900–1800 m.; rainfall about 1000 mm.
