- A shrub with large leaflets, up to 6 ft. high.

- Habit
- Softly woody shrub up to 3 m. tall, but sometimes flowering on much shorter coppiced shoots; stems 3–4-angled or winged, strigulose or pubescent.
- Leaves
- Stipules subulate-setaceous, up to 10 mm. long; rhachis rather flattened, brownish or whitish pubescent, ± 10 cm. long, including a petiole of up to 3 cm., prolonged up to 10 mm. beyond the lateral leaflets; stipellae filiform, up to 3 mm. long; petiolules up to 4 mm. long; leaflets 5–9, rarely 3 or 11–13, oblong-elliptic, apiculate, up to 5 cm. long and 2.8 cm. wide, usually strigulose on both surfaces, pubescent on the nerves beneath.

- Racemes brownish strigulose or pubescent, many-flowered, up to 25 cm. long in fruit, including a peduncle of ± 2–3 cm.; bracts lanceolate, erect, up to 8 mm. long, caducous; pedicels ± 2 mm. in flower, reflexed and ± 3 mm. long in fruit.

- Calyx densely strigulose, nearly 2 mm. long; lobes broadly triangular, shorter than the tube.

- Corolla densely golden-brown strigulose outside.

- Stamens 12–13 mm. long.

- Pod usually upturned and pointed at the tip, the style-base not thickened, somewhat tetragonal, 5–6 cm. long, ± 3.5 mm. wide and 3 mm. thick, strigulose, 13–17-seeded; endocarp spotted.
