    Habit
    Prostrate, or less often climbing, herb from a woody rootstock; stems 0.1–1.2 m long, densely spreading yellow-brown hairy, rarely velvety.
    Leaflets
    Leaflets (1)3, 1.5–8(11.5) × 1–6.5(8) cm, elliptic to round, rhombic or oblong, rarely lanceolate, the laterals slightly oblique, rounded to subacute at the apex, rounded to cuneate at the base, pubescent to ± velvety, prominently 3-nerved from the base, venation raised and reticulate beneath; petiole 4–10(25) mm long; rhachis 5–6 mm long; stipules 5–7(8) × 1.1–2(4.5) mm, oblong-lanceolate to lanceolate, rarely ovate-oblong.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescences 6–13(23) cm long including peduncle, (1)3–7-flowered (rarely more); pedicels 2.5 mm long.
    Calyx
    Calyx yellow-brown hairy; tube 3 mm long; upper lobes 3 mm long, lanceolate, joined at the base; lateral lobes 3 mm long, lanceolate; lowest lobe 3.5 mm long, linear-lanceolate.
    Corolla
    Standard orange or yellow, striped red or purple, 9 × 8 mm, obovate, glabrous.
    Fruits
    Pods 18–22 × 7–8 mm, ± oblong, covered with short and long hairs.
    Seeds
    Seeds orange-brown to dark red-brown, 4–5 × 3–4 × 1–1.8 mm, rounded reniform, the hilum central and situated in a distinct emargination; rim aril developed, c. 0.7 mm tall.
