    Habit
    Softly woody shrub or small tree, the stem up to 10 cm. in diameter, branched from near the base, 2–7 m. tall.
    Branches
    Branchlets glabrous or almost so, rarely somewhat aculeate.
    Leaves
    Leaves glabrous except for a few hairs on the pulvinus and at the bases of the petiolules; stipules ovate-lanceolate, often recurved, caducous; leaflets in 4–9 or rarely up to 13 pairs, usually 3–4 mm. wide and 8–9 mm. long.
    Inflorescences
    Racemes 1–2-flowered, almost glabrous, the rhachis up to 3 cm. long; pedicel 6–10 mm. long.
    Receptacle
    Receptacle 1.5 mm., calyx-tube 4–5 mm., calyx-lobes broadly triangular, ± 1 mm. long.
    Corolla
    Blade of standard ovate-elliptic, broadly cuneate at the base, 21–25 mm. long, 22–24 mm. broad; claw ± 5 mm. long; appendages with free tips 4–5 mm. long, 1.5–1.8 mm. wide, oblong at the base and narrowed to an obtuse apex (fig. 49/1b, p. 332); blade of wing 20–21 mm. long with a short broad tooth at the base; blade of keel 11–12 mm. long, 6 mm. wide at the base and 9–10 mm. near the apex; basal tooth short, usually at an angle of 60°–80° with the 13 mm. long claw, sometimes almost parallel to it (fig. 49/1a, 1aa).
    Filaments
    Filament-sheath 18–23 mm. long.
    Pistil
    Ovary 30–45-ovulate, glabrous; style 5–6 mm. long, glabrous.
    Fruits
    Pod ± 4 mm. wide, thicker at the centre than at the sutures, not, or but slightly and irregularly, torulose, ending in a beak 3–4 mm. long; septa 5–6 mm. apart.
    Seeds
    Seeds brown, not mottled, ± 4 × 2 × 1.5 mm.; hilum 0.5 mm. long.
