    A perennial herb
    Leaves
    Fleshy grey-green leaves up to about 2 ft, long and about 3 in. broad (narrower than in the other W. African species), toothed margins; leaf-surface mottled, turning red in dry season
    Stem
    Stem up to 21/4 in. diam. and 2 ft. long, usually falling over and giving rise to several suckers
    Perianth
    Perianth dull pink or red
    Ecology
    On rocky hills and sometimes planted in villages.
