    Habit
    Plant arising from a corm 2.5–3.5 cm long.
    Roots
    Roots fleshy, 5–10 mm thick at 2 cm from the corm, gradually tapering downwards.
    Leaves
    Leaves 30–50 cm long.
    Pedicel
    Pedicels 2–3 cm long; spathe scarious.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence 5–10-flowered, 1–1.2 cm long, first nodding then upright when fading or in seed.
    Perianth
    Perianth segments lanceolate, 4–5 mm long, green, inserted at the same level at base of corona and strongly reflexed; corona very fleshy, 4–5 mm long, shallowly trilobate at apex, forming a Y-shaped slit, reddish to greenish-brown in colour.
    Anthers
    Anthers in 2 whorls, the upper one on top of corona.
    Ovary
    Ovary oblong, thick, almost level with insertion of perianth segments, c.8 mm long; style 1–1.5 mm long.
    Fruits
    Capsule 18–20 mm long; seeds not seen.
    Distribution
    So far only recorded from the type locality.
    Ecology
    In open miombo woodland, on red loam soils among rocks; 1300 m.
    Conservation
    Conservation notes: Only known from the type specimen (the type is a cultivated plant from Biegel 2859), but likely to be found elsewhere; Data Deficient, possibly Endangered.
