    Habit
    Shrub 10–60 cm tall, from a tuberous rootstock.

    Leaves elliptic or ovate, 19–38 × 6–20 mm, with 2 or 3 rounded lobes on each side, apex rounded or truncate, base cuneate or rounded, margin crenate or serrate, sparsely stellate-pubescent above and below, stellate-hispid below; petiole 3–12 mm long, stellate-hispid; stipules linear, 2–5 × 0.5 mm, hispid
    Flowers
    Flowers solitary in the leaf axils, pedicel 16–33 mm long, hispid and/or pubescent; epicalyx of 8–10 linear bracts 4–5 × 0.5 mm, pubescent and/or hispid, reflexed at anthesis; calyx lobes lanceolate, 7–9 × 1–1.5 mm, fused in the lower third, hispid
    Corolla
    Corolla 10–13 mm long, bright scarlet, stellate-hispid on the outside, glabrous on the inside.
    Stamens
    Staminal tube 5–7 mm long, anthers located on the apical half only; filaments 0.2–0.5 mm long; exserted part of styles 3–5 mm long, glabrous
    Fruits
    Capsule spherical, 6–8 mm in diameter, glabrous or sparsely pubescent.
    Seeds
    Seeds reniform, brown, 3 × 3 mm, the hairs 4–6 mm long.
