    Habit
    A prostrate or straggling succulent annual or ? short-lived perennial herb.
    Stem
    Stems usually rough with warty outgrowths, not rooting at the nodes, 2–30 cm. long or more.
    Leaves
    Leaves alternate (by reduction), subopposite, or opposite, narrowly elliptic to broadly ovate, petiolate; the blade 7–20 mm. long, 2–11 mm. wide; the petiole 3–10 mm. long, scarious-winged at the base.
    Flowers
    Flowers solitary, 5–14 mm. long, sessile.
    Calyx
    Calyx-lobes equal, narrowly-triangular, acute, each with a dorsal apiculus 1–2 mm. long from just below the apex, pink inside, green outside.
    Stamens
    Stamens 5-many, free.
    Ovary
    Ovary of 2 carpels, 2-locular; styles 2.
    Seeds
    Seeds about 2–10 in each loculus, rugose, black.
