    Habit
    Herbaceous, usually much-branched and glandular, arising from rhizomes or from deep, woody roots.
    Ecology
    Sandy soils, less often on semistabilized soils of sagebrush communities. Continental and warm temperate woodland, grassland and desert scrub, on rocky slopes or in sandy areas, dunes and alluvial plains.
    Distribution
    Throughout the western Great Plains and throughout the Innermost West in the United States, from Washington east to North Dakota, south to the Texas Panhandle and west to Arizona; Colorado River and its tributaries in Kane and San Juan counties of Utah.
    Note
    This genus was created when the type species of Psoralidium, in which the two species now comprising this genus were formerly situated, was transferred to Pediomelum.
