    Distribution

    South-west China: south-eastern Yunnan, western and northern Guangxi and southwestern Guizhou; 450–1550 m.

    General Description

    A terrestrial herb with clustered growths. Leaves 4–5, oblong-elliptic, obtuse, 5–15 cm long, 1.5–2 cm wide, mottled dark and pale green above, purple-spotted below. Inflorescence erect, 1-flowered; peduncle 9–20 cm long, villose, purple. Flower large for size of plant, 5.8-8.7 cm across, thin-textured; sepals and petals pale yellow, flushed pink above, veined with red-purple; lip rose-pink rarely white, paler towards base, purple-spotted within; staminode white, pink-flushed at base, yellow above, spotted with red; pedicel and ovary 4.6 cm long, hairy. Dorsal sepal ovate, acute, 1.5–3.6 cm long, 1.7–3 cm wide, villose on outer surface. Synsepal elliptic, acutely bilobed at apex, 1.8–3.3 cm long, 1.1–2.5 cm wide, bicarinate. Petals elliptic-subcircular, rounded at apex, 1.9–4.3 cm long, 2.3–4.4 cm wide, ciliate, covered with long white hairs on inner surface especially in basal half. Lip deeply inflated, elliptic-ovate, 5–10.4 cm long, 3.4–5.6 cm wide. Staminode convex, longitudinally conduplicate, circular to elliptic, 10–12.5 mm long. 2n = 26.
