    Distribution

    North-east India (Mizoram and Manipur), north-west Burma and possibly southwest China; 300–1300 m altitude.

    General Description

    A lithophyte or terrestrial herb. Leaves 4–5, spreading to pendent, narrowly oblongelliptic to ligulate, acute to obtuse at obliquely bidenticulate apex, 15–30 cm long, 3.5–6 cm wide, with undulate basal margins, glossy dark green, spotted with purple towards base on lower surface. Inflorescence 1- (rarely 2-) flowered, 13–35 cm long; peduncle terete, slender, erect to suberect-arculate, 8–22 cm long, glabrous below, sparsely pubescent above; bract elliptic, acute to obtuse, 1.8–3 cm long. Flower 5.5–7 cm across; dorsal sepal white with a central maroon vein and greenish base; synsepal off-white; petals yellow-green with a central brown-purple vein and flecking on other veins; lip glossy, pale green, heavily flushed brown with darker brown veins; staminode white, flushed purple and with a central yolk-yellow mark; pedicel and ovary 3.5–5.5 cm, glabrous, purple. Dorsal sepal curving forwards, obovate to transversely elliptic, obtuse to retuse, 2.7–4.2 cm long, 3.5–5 cm wide, with sides recurved, pubescent on both surfaces. Synsepal ovate, subacute, 2.7–3.5 cm long, 1.6–2.2 cm wide. Petals falcate, linear-tapering, acute to obtuse, 3–3.9 cm long, 0.7–1.3 cm wide, upper margin markedly undulate, ciliate towards apex only. Lip 3.5–4.3 cm long, 2.5–3 cm wide. Staminode obovate or transversely elliptic-obcordate, bluntly apiculate, glabrous, auriculate at base, 10 mm long, 6 mm wide. 2n = 28, 30.
