    Leaves alternate, subsessile, linear to linear-lanceolate, 7–10 × 0.5–0.6 mm, acute, base cuneate, glabrous

    Flowers pinkish, in dense terminal racemes 4–7 cm long; rachis glabrous; bracts linear-lanceolate, 0.7–0.9 mm long, glabrous, caducous; bracteoles linear, 0.4–0.5 mm long, glabrous, caducous; pedicels 0.2–1 mm, glabrous

    Posterior sepal lanceolate, 1.5 mm long, glabrous; wing sepals obovate, (2–)2.5–3 × 1–1.5 mm, glabrous; anterior sepals linear, 0.7–1 mm long, glabrous, free

    Upper petals obovate-elliptic, 1.8–2 mm long; carina 1–1.5 mm long; crest 0.4–0.5 mm long, 7–8-fimbriate

    Seeds
    Seeds ellipsoid-ovoid, 0.6–0.7 × 0.4–0.5 mm, with white, wavy or straight (rarely glochidiate) hairs; caruncle absent.
    Ecology
    Wet places and seasonally wet grassland not far from the coast; 0–10 m (–140 m near Lunguma)
    Note
    The plants from Mafia Island have smaller flowers than the typical form, and glochidiate hairs.
