    Habit
    A low spreading bush with woody branches, 15–120 cm. tall.
    Branches
    Lateral branchlets 1.5–12 cm. long.
    Stipules
    Stipules ovate, entire, reddish-brown, transversely wrinkled, obscuring the branchlets, glabrous or with long white hairs on the margins.
    Leaves
    Leaves undivided, sessile or nearly so, simple, broadest at the apex and thence ± evenly narrowed to the base, 4–15 × 2–5 mm., apically truncate and ± tridentate, with the acute, forward-directed teeth up to 1.5(–2) mm. deep, covered on both sides with long silvery hairs.
    Flowers
    Flowers 1–3 together.
    Calyx
    Calyx-tube 1.5 mm. long; calyx-lobes triangular, 1–1.5 mm. long; epicalyx-lobes lanceolate, shorter than the calyx-lobes.
    Fruits
    Achenes usually 2.
    Habitat
    Upland moor and moist bamboo-thickets, in both wet and dry places, 2700–4350 m.
