    Habit
    A stoloniferous herb with erect flowering shoots and rosettes of erect, basal leaves.
    Stem
    Stems long, rooting at the nodes and producing secondary rosettes at intervals, covered when young with ± appressed, silky-white hairs.
    Stipules
    Stipules 5–15 mm. long, foliaceous, terminally dentate, the teeth sometimes red-tipped.
    Leaves
    Stem-leaves of similar shape, 5–7-lobed, up to 0.5–1.5 cm. long and 1.9–2.7 cm. broad, the lobes variably deeply divided, obovate-rounded to lanceolate-acute, the teeth usually rather jagged; petiole (2–)4–5(–8) cm. long. Rosette-leaves ± reniform, 7–9(–11)-lobed, 2–3.5 cm. long, 3–6 cm. broad, covered on both sides, or mainly on the nerves only, with appressed silky hairs, usually ± silvery below, darker green above; lobes varying from lanceolate with a subacute apex to obovate-cuneate with a ± rounded apex, not or seldom reaching beyond the middle of the lamina; petiole up to 21 cm. long, silvery-hairy.

    Inflorescence simple or branched, rather slender, commonly 10–15 cm. long; pedicels slender, spreading, often ± filiform, 0.5–1(–5) cm. long, covered with appressed, silky hairs.
    Calyx
    Calyx-lobes ovate-triangular (1.8–)2–2.5 mm. long, acute; epicalyx-lobes equalling or slightly exceeding (rarely shorter than) but always narrower than the calyx-lobes, elliptic-lanceolate, (1.8–)2.8–3 mm. long; calyx and epicalyx covered outside with appressed, silvery hairs, or more rarely glabrous.
    Fruits
    Achenes 2(–3).
    Habitat
    Upland grassland, hillsides, river-banks; particularly in damp places; 2250–3120 m.
