    Habit
    Erect annual herb, with branched glabrous or very slightly scabridulous stems, 35–70 cm. tall.
    Leaves
    Leaves linear, 3–6 cm. long, 0.8–1.5 mm. wide, narrowly acute at the apex, narrowed to the base, glabrous; stipular sheath 1–1.5 mm. long, with 2 filiform setae 0.7–1.5 mm. long.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescences very lax panicles; pedicels very graceful, 1–1.5 cm. long, lengthening up to 2–4 cm. long in fruit, glabrous.
    Calyx
    Calyx-tube ellipsoid, 0.8 mm. long, papillose; lobes narrowly triangular, 1.3 mm. long, slightly scabridulous at the margins.
    Corolla
    Corolla said to be red; tube 4.5 mm. long, minutely papillate, the widened part 1.5 mm. long, 0.5 mm. wide, glabrous inside; lobes 1.3 mm. long, 0.7 mm. wide.
    Pistil
    Style 1.3 mm. long; stigma-lobes 1.7 mm. long.

    Capsule subglobose, 3 mm. in diameter, glabrous.
