    Habit
    Perennial prostrate scrambling or suberect herb (2–)7–60 cm. long, the stems sometimes rooting at the nodes, glabrous to sparsely spreading hairy.
    Leaves
    Leaf-blades elliptic to elliptic-oblong or elliptic-lanceolate, 0.5–3.5 cm. long, 2–9(–12) mm. wide, acute at the apex, cuneate or somewhat rounded at the base, rather thick and often drying a dark colour above, the margins and sometimes the midvein scabrid but rest of the blade glabrous; petiole 1.2–3 mm. long, sometimes adnate to the stipule-sheath for its entire length; stipule-sheath 0.7–3 mm. long, produced into a triangular lobe bearing 4–6 fimbriae 2–2.5(–4) mm. long.
    Flowers
    Flowers mostly solitary at the nodes, sometimes paired or rarely in fascicles, 4-merous, heterostylous; peduncle 0–10(–16) mm. long; pedicels 0.3–2.6 cm. long, glabrous.
    Calyx
    Calyx-tube campanulate, 1–1.5 mm. long, glabrous; lobes ovate-triangular, 1–2 mm. long, 0.8–1.5 mm. wide, often ciliolate or ciliate.
    Corolla
    Corolla white, bluish, pink or violet; tube 1–3(–5) mm. long, the throat densely hairy; lobes oblong-lanceolate, 1.7–3.5(–4) mm. long, 1–1.8(–2) mm. wide, hairy at the base.
    Pistil
    Style 1.5 mm. long in short-styled flowers, 2–3.2 mm. long in long-styled flowers; stigma-lobes 0.3–1 mm. long.
    Fruits
    Capsule obconic-campanulate, 2 mm. long, 2.5 mm. wide, glabrous, the beak scarcely raised.
    Seeds
    Seeds dark brown, ellipsoid, 0.7 mm. long, flattened on one side, conically raised on the other, strongly reticulate.
