    Habit
    Small tree up to 10 m. tall with glabrous compressed branches.
    Leaves
    Leaf-blades ovate-oblong to oblong-lanceolate or elliptic, (5.5–)9.5–17 cm. long, (1.7–)3–6.8 cm. wide, obtuse to acute or ± acuminate, rounded to broadly cuneate at the base, sometimes those below lateral branches smaller and broadly elliptic, glabrous, shining or dull, often drying brown beneath, midrib often slightly impressed above and prominent beneath, the venation mostly raised on both surfaces; lateral nerves ± 8–11; petiole (4–)6–10 mm. long; stipules triangular or ovate-triangular, 3.5–6.5 mm. long, 3.5–5 mm. wide, shortly mucronate, puberulous outside, glabrous inside but with numerous small hair-like glands at the base, persistent or falling.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescences sessile or shortly pedunculate, 2–4-flowered; peduncle 0–1.1 cm. long; bracts ovate or triangular, 2–4 mm. long, acute; pedicels 0–9 mm. long, with 1–2 pairs of bracteoles 3–7 mm. long, irregularly connate to form a cupule; bracts, bracteoles and peduncle densely shortly pubescent Calyx-tube obconic, 2.5 mm. long, glabrous; limb at first oblong-ellipsoid to elongate-suburceolate, 0.72–1.3 cm. long, with ± 4 triangular teeth 1–2 mm. long, but during flowering becoming deeply split on one side, puberulous outside, densely adpressed pubescent inside.
    Corolla
    Corolla white, glabrous outside; tube 1–1.1 cm. long, 1.5–2 mm. wide and widened to the densely hairy throat; lobes spreading, ovate-oblong, 1.2 cm. long, 5 mm. wide, acute.
    Style
    Style 2.3 cm. long.
    Fruits
    Fruit subglobose, 1.2–1.4 cm. long, 1.2 cm. wide glabrous, obscurely to rather distinctly 8–9-ribbed in dry state, crowned by the persistent calyx-limb.
    Seeds
    Seeds 9 mm. long.
    Habitat
    Rain-forest on steep slopes; 900–1020 m.
