    Habit
    Bush or small tree 3–8.4(–9) m. tall, often climbing; young branches glabrous.
    Leaves
    Leaves glabrous; blades elliptic or sometimes broadly elliptic, 6–14(–18) cm. long, (2.2–)2.5–5.8(–7.8) cm. wide, apex acuminate, base acute; domatia present; petioles 0.3–0.8(–1) cm. long; stipules triangular, ± 3 mm. long, acuminate, early caducous.
    Flowers
    Flowers sweetly scented, solitary, terminal on short branches above a single leaf; peduncle (0.3–)0.4–1 cm. long, bearing ± 5–9 scale-like, ciliate bracteoles.
    Calyx
    Calyx glabrous outside; tube 0.5–0.8(–1) cm. long; limb-tube (0.5–)0.7–1 cm. long, wider than the tube; lobes very shortly triangular or linear, 1–2(–4) mm. long.
    Corolla
    Corolla purple to green outside, whitish, often with purple spots inside, finely pubescent outside; tube narrowly cylindrical below, funnel-shaped above, (?4.4–)14–18(–24) cm. long, the funnel-shaped portion 3.8–4(–5.5) cm. long, 1.2–4.2 cm. wide at top, 0.2–0.4 cm. wide at base, with lines of pubescence in cylindrical portion inside; lobes overlapping to the left in bud, ovate, (1–)1.3–2.5(–4) cm. long, (0.9–)1.2–1.7 cm. wide, obtuse, greyish tomentose above.
    Anthers
    Anthers included or with tips exserted, 2.7–3(–3.5) cm. long.
    Pistil
    Style 12–21.2 cm. long, gradually widened towards apex; stigma partly exserted, (1.5–)2–2.9 cm. long, (0.2–)0.4–0.5 cm. wide.
    Fruits
    Fruit ? green, drying blackish, globose to ellipsoid, 3.5–5.2(–7) cm. long, with 10 indistinct ribs, glabrous, the calyx-limb persistent.
    Seeds
    Seeds brownish, 6–8 mm. long, 5–6 mm. wide, 1–1.5 mm. thick.
    Habitat
    Forest or woodland; 900–1200(–1675) m.
    Distribution
