    Habit
    Scandent shrub or climber 1–4 m. tall; young branches covered with rust-coloured spreading hairs; older branches with thin flaking bark.
    Leaves
    Leaf-blades elliptic, broadly elliptic or oblong-elliptic, 6–18 cm. long, 2.3–3.6 cm. wide, acuminate and sometimes mucronulate at apex, obtuse to rounded, often unequal or sometimes cordate at base, glabrous, glabrescent or sparsely pubescent above, glabrescent to sparsely pubescent with denser spreading hairs on the nerves beneath, shiny with surface forming fine ridges resembling fingerprints on both faces; domatia usually absent or if present then hairy tufts, inconspicuous; petiole 0.7–2.7 cm. long, densely covered with spreading hairs; stipules triangular at base, subulate above, 0.8–1.6 cm. long, covered with spreading hairs outside.
    Flowers
    Flowers 5-merous, sessile, in terminal pyramidal panicles; 2–4 pairs of main lateral inflorescence-branches covered with spreading hairs; bracteoles linear, up to 1.2 cm. long, exceeding and obscuring the calyx, covered with spreading hairs.
    Calyx
    Calyx ± covered with spreading hairs; tube 0.75–1 mm. long; limb-tube 0.25–1.25 mm. long; lobes ovate, 1–1.5(–2) mm. long.
    Corolla
    Corolla-tube funnel-shaped, 7–10 mm. long, ± 2 mm. wide at top, glabrous or sparsely pubescent outside; lobes ovate, 3–3.75 mm. long, 1.25–2 mm. wide, acuminate at apex.
    Pistil
    Style with a dense patch of pubescence just above base; stigma narrowly clavate to clavate, 2–3 mm. long.
    Fruits
    Fruit orange to red, 5–8 mm. in diameter, glabrous; calyx-limb persistent.
    Seeds
    Seeds reddish brown or reddish black, 4.5–5 mm. in diameter, minutely reticulate.
