Very sparsely branched perennial herb, with a fleshy tuberous rootstock, minutely puberulous in all parts; stems 1–2, fleshy, to 8 mm. thick, erect or subscandent to 80 cm.

Leaves ovate to subcircular or lanceolate, fleshy, apex apiculate, base tapering, margin entire, often minutely sinuate, midrib prominent on the lower surface; stipules scale-like, sharply 2–3-toothed, ± 1 mm. wide, brown.

Cymes on peduncles to 8 mm. long often flanked by a small toothed scale similar to the stipules, 1–2-forked; bract-cup ± 7 × 8 mm., shallowly notched between obtuse apices, green with darker reticulate veining, often tinged pink.
