Morphology General Habit
Minutely scabridulous or occasionally glabrous perennial herb, with a tuberous rootstock to 2 cm. thick; stems 1–3, fleshy, rarely branching, erect to 15 cm. high or occasionally decumbent, to 5 mm. thick.

Leaves obovate to 4.5 × 2.5 cm., apex acute, margin entire, lamina purplish mottled; stipules scale-like, minute, 1–2-toothed, 0.5 mm. across, brown.

Cymes on peduncles to 3.5 cm. long, 1–2-forked; bract-cup ± equalling the involucre ± 4.5 × 4 mm., notched for 1/3 between acute apices, whitish green or pink-tinged with prominent white midribs.
