Glabrous perennial unbranched herb ± 25 cm. high, with a tuberous root.

Leaves obovate, to 8 × 3 cm., base tapering to a petiole 1–2 cm. long, apex acute, margin entire; stipules triangular, minute.

Cymes subsessile, 1-forked, on minutely papillose peduncles, congested towards the stem apex; bracts slightly shorter than the involucre, free, subquadrate, ± 3 × 2.5 mm., margin minutely toothed.
