    Type
Brazil, Goiás state, Alto Paraíso de Goiás, 13 Feb. 2005, Pastore 1260 (holotypus CEN; isotypi RB, BR, K, MO, NY).
    Habit
Herbs erect; annual, 20 – 40 cm tall; roots slender, few, branched; stems slender, with single stem arising from base, distally not or little branched, cylindrical, slightly striate, sub-aphyllous, puberulous to sparsely puberulous, trichomes short-clavate, without yellowish or whitish spots
    Leaves
Leaves 3 – 4 whorled at base of stems, other leaves alternate, subsessile, chartaceous; lamina of leaves at base of stem 0.8 – 2.5 × (0.4 –) 0.6 – 1.1 mm, broadly elliptical, oval or lanceolate, the other (upper) leaves 1 – 1.2 × 0.1 – 0.2 mm, linear, becoming scale-like in distal half of stems, apex acute, not ciliate at margins, base acute, surfaces puberulous, trichomes short-clavate, without yellowish spots
    Note
Polygala tacianae also demonstrates morphological similarities to P. nudicaulis, having ovoid seeds with appendages ½ - ⅔ the size of the seed, stems distally sub-aphyllous. However, the two species are not easily confused as P. nudicaulis is much more robust, with rigid stems that are strongly angular.
