    Inflorescences
Inflorescences not branched, 3–4 cm long, with 3–7 flowers; peduncle 1–4 mm long; rachis 0.3–1 cm long; peduncle and rachis usually unarmed; pedicels 0.5–1 cm longin flower, in fruit ± 1.5 cm long, usually unarmed

    Ovary
Ovary stellatepubescent in upper 1/2; style 13–15 mm long on long-styled flowers
    Fruits
Berries 1–2 per infructescence, yellow at maturity, spherical, ± 15 mm in diameter; fruiting calyx with 10–30 prickles
    Seeds
    Seeds 2.5–3.5 × 2–2.5 mm
    Ecology
Coastal bush, dunes and sand, often on coral; 0–50 m
    Note
Solanum malindiense has undulate leaves of consistent shape, long-acuminate calyx lobes, and curved prickles covering the calyx from late bud onwards. Solanum malindiense is similar to the more southern S. usaramense populations in the coastal areas of Mozambique, Tanzania and southern Kenya, with wider and more lobed leaves, larger yellow berries, and sparse indumentum. Observations suggest that it is comparatively rare and occurs sporadically.
