    Habit
    Woody herb or shrub, prostrate, scrambling or scandent, 0.2-4 m tall, much-branched; stems densely shortly ascending-pubescent with simple hairs, glabrescent.
    Leaves
    Leaves shortly petiolate or rarely sessile, ovate, (broadly) elliptic or obovate, 1.8-7 cm long, 0.8-4 cm wide, base broadly cuneate to attenuate, often decurrent to a ± truncate or almost auriculate base and then often still with a petiole, margins crenate-serrate, apex obtuse to acute, green, finely scattered-pubescent becoming somewhat scabrid above, pale tomentose or tomentellous beneath, glandular; petiole up to 0.7 cm long.
    Capitulum
    Capitula in rather lax copious terminal compound corymbiform cymes; involucre conical to narrowly cylindrical, 3-6 mm long; phyllaries in several series, slightly spreading, green, upper margins often mauve-tinged, ovate, obtuse to rounded, apiculate, outer and median sparsely hairy, inner almost glabrous and 3.2-5 mm long.
    Flowers
    Corolla white, pale mauve or pale lilac, 4-6.6 mm long, lobes 1.2-2.3 mm long, glabrous.
    Fruits
    Achenes 1.8-2.5 mm long, obtusely 5-ribbed, shortly ascending-pubescent; outer pappus of narrow scales 0.4-1 mm long, inner pappus white or tawny, 4-6 mm long.

    Thicket and forest margins, swamp and riverine fringes, bushland, roadsides, also in old cultivations; may cover large areas; 1-700(-900) m
