    Diagnostic
    subsp. nov. Differs from the typical subspecies in the broader, elliptic or obovate (not lanceolate or narrowly oblong) outer calyx lobes and in the longer and more lanceolate lateral calyx lobes.
    Calyx
    Outer calyx lobes obovate-elliptic (anterior) or elliptic (posterior), anterior lobe 12–15 × 5–8 mm; lateral lobes lanceolate, 6–8 mm long.
    Distribution
    Not known elsewhere.
    Ecology
    Amongst boulders and in rock crevices on hillslopes in light shade; 800–1100 m.
    Conservation
    Conservation notes: Endemic to the Mutare–Save Valley area of E Zimbabwe and known from only four collections; clearly scarce and possibly threatened since the area is now heavily disturbed.
