    Leaves opposite, ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 7–25 mm long, 3–8 mm wide, base cuneate, apex acute, entire in the apical part, and with 3–4 coarse or obscure teeth on each side, 3–5-veined, hispid; petiole ± 2 mm

    Inflorescence of terminal racemes, generally compact; flowers solitary in the axils of leaf-like bracts; bracts linear to linear-lanceolate, 9–13 mm long, entire or with 1–3 blunt teeth, with 1–3 prominent veins; bracteoles linear, 5–6 mm, acute, hispid; pedicels 1–2 mm

    Habit
    Erect annual, 15–30(50) cm. tall; stems branched or rarely simple, stout, straight, densely to somewhat densely patent-hispid, floriferous almost throughout.
    Leaves
    Leaves or leaf-like bracts in floriferous part of stem, spreading alternate, 15–35 x 3–9 mm., lanceolate or linear, subacute to obtuse, entire or with 2–5 large widely spaced teeth on each margin, sessile or narrowed into short petiole-like base, hispid-scabrid on both surfaces or subglabrous beneath, hispid only on margins and midrib; lower stem leaves up to 20(55) x 7–12(18) mm., ovate to ovate-lanceolate, obtuse, crenate to irregularly large toothed, otherwise similar to upper leaves.

    Flowers solitary in axils of upper leaves or leaf-like bracts, pedicellate.

    Pedicels (1)3–4 mm. long.
    Bracteoles
    Bracteoles 5–8 mm. long, up to 1 mm. wide, linear to narrowly spathulate, hispid-ciliate.
    Calyx
    Calyx (4.5)7–8.5 mm. long, somewhat densely hispid; lobes (1.5)2.75–5 mm. long, subequal, triangular, obtuse, densely hispid on margin.
    Corolla
    Corolla yellow to pale orange, purplish-veined, longer than calyx.
    Stamens
    Stamens subequal; filaments glabrous; anthers not apiculate.
    Fruits
    Capsule 5–6 x 5–6 mm., broadly ovoid to globose.
