    Least Concern (LC); at its northern most limit in the Flora area, apparently common in F.Z. area
    Note
    Two collections from Tanzania, Udzungwa Mt Nature Park, Mt Luhomero pt. 132, swamp, 2040 m, Luke et al. 6825 & 1440 m, montane forest, Luke et al. 6762, come closest to H. huillensis but differ in their slender stems reaching up to 60 cm. With more material this may prove to be a distinct taxon.

    Flowers 1–4, solitary in the upper axils, large for the size of the plant; bracts shorter than calyx; pedicels 4–9 mm long

    Habit
    Annual herb, 6–16 cm. tall when flowering, densely to more or less densely glandular-pilose.
    Stem
    Stems erect, simple (1)1.5–2.5 mm. in diam.
    Leaves
    Leaves opposite, 6–20 x 1.5–7 mm., oblong-ovate to narrowly obovate, entire, acute or obtuse, cuneate at base, sessile; lower smaller to scale-like.
    Flowers
    Flowers solitary in axils of upper leaves, pedicellate, ebracteolate.
    Pedicel
    Pedicels 3–7(10–17) mm. long, spreading, densely glandular-pilose.
    Calyx
    Calyx 18–24(27) mm. long, somewhat inflated, more or less densely glandular-pilose; lobes 4–8(14) mm. long, unequal, lanceolate-triangular, acute or obtuse.
    Corolla
    Corolla rose-pink to magenta or white with whitish tube, yellow or cream throat; tube (16)20–30(33) mm. long, glandular-pilose especially adaxially above calyx, glabrescent elsewhere; lobes (4–6)8–10 mm. long, obovate, entire; limb c. 15 mm. in diam.

    Capsule (? immature) c. 7 x 7.5 mm., compressed subspherical, glabrous.
