    Habit
    Erect perennial herb or undershrub, 35–65 cm. tall, usually white silky-tomentose throughout; stems terete, one to several arising from a woody base, simple or branching mostly above.
    Leaves
    Leaves opposite or apparently in whorls, 15–40 x 0.5–1(1.5) mm., linear, acute, entire, midrib prominent beneath, margin obscurely revolute.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence 5–20 cm. long, terminal, loose-racemose; flowers many, pink to pinkish-mauve, pedicellate.
    Pedicel
    Pedicels (3.5)5–7 mm. long.
    Bracteoles
    Bracteoles 2.5–3.5(5) mm. long, narrowly linear.
    Calyx
    Calyx 5–5.5 mm. long; lobes 2 mm. long, deltate, acute.
    Corolla
    Corolla 7–8 mm. long, limb 7–11 mm. in diam.
    Anthers
    Fertile anther thecae 2–2.5 mm. long, ellipsoid.
    Fruits
    Capsule 3.5–4.5 x 2–2.75 mm., oblong in outline, rounded to subtruncate or shallowly emarginate at apex, pilose to a varying degree.
