    Habit
    Erect perennial herb with mauve tuberous roots.
    Stem
    Stems slender 30–65 cm. tall, usually several simple stems from a woody base, sometimes branched above, shortly pubescent.
    Leaves
    Leaves opposite below, alternate above, 15–38 x c. 2 mm., linear, held vertically, shortly scabrid pubescent.
    Flowers
    Flowers 4–14, alternate, shortly pedicellate in loose terminal inflorescences.
    Bracts
    Bracts and bracteoles subulate, usually shorter than calyx.
    Calyx
    Calyx tubular, strongly 15-ribbed; tube 8–11 mm. long; teeth 5,3–8 mm. long, linear.
    Corolla
    Corolla white with green tube; tube c. 20 mm. long, sharply bent above, densely pubescent outside; upper lip broadly truncate-ovate, undivided; lower lip broadly 3-lobed, lobes finely pubescent on margins and outside, central lobe up to 15 x 10 mm., obovate.

    Capsule 8 x 2.5 mm., valves recurved at apex after dehiscence.
