    Note
Solanum cyaneopurpureum is part of a complex series of mostly climbing, small-leaved species in Solanum section Oliganthes and is the only species with an inland distribution range in the Lake Victoria Basin regional mosaic and the Guineo-Congolan phytochorion. Solanum cyaneopurpureum and S. zanzibarense are difficult to distinguish and no one character separates all the specimens. Solanum cyaneopurpureum and S. taitense share small subentire leaves, untidy appearance and stalked trichomes. Solanum cyaneopurpureum is sometimes cultivated as a medicinal plant in maize fields in central Tanzania, growing closer to the coast than normal ( T 5). These plants have broader leaves and more numerous flowers.
