    Note
Previously considered to be a synonym of the variable S. aculeastrum, this commonly observed Southern Highland endemic differs from S. aculeastrum primarily by its numerous small round fruits, but also by its long yellowish-orange indumentum with stout branches, short internodes and few prickles. It seems to occupy higher altitudes than S. aculeastrum in the Southern Highlands and few intermediate individuals have been observed at the boundary. It is particularly frequent in villages and roadsides.
