    Habit
    Tree up to 15 m. tall (? secondarily) terrestrial.
    Twigs
    Leafy twigs 5–7 mm. thick, puberulous to almost glabrous, periderm not flaking off.
    Leaves
    Leaves in spirals; lamina coriaceous, oblong to lanceolate, 9.5–14.5 × 4.5–6 cm., apex obtuse to rounded, base obtuse to rounded, margin entire; both surfaces glabrous; lateral veins 10–13 pairs; tertiary venation largely parallel to the lateral veins; petiole 1.5–3.5 cm. long, 2–2.5 mm. thick; stipules 0.3–0.5 cm. long, white to yellowish puberulous.
    Infructescences
    Figs 2–7 together on small spurs in the leaf-axils or just below the leaves; peduncle 0.8–1.7 cm. long; basal bracts ± 3 mm. long, persistent.
    Receptacle
    Receptacle globose, 0.8–1 cm. in diameter when dry, sparsely puberulous.
    Habitat
    Woodland near coast, with Adansonia, Pteleopsis and Tetracera, and along coast of Lake Tanganyika with Anthocleista; 50–1000 m.
