    Habit
    Tree up to 35 m. or more tall, with buttresses.
    Twigs
    Leafy twigs 2–3 mm. thick, white puberulous or glabrous, when juvenile white hirsute to pubescent.
    Leaves
    Lamina subcoriaceous, when juvenile chartaceous, oblong to elliptic or ± ovate, 5–20 × 2–11.5 cm., often larger when juvenile, apex subacute to acuminate, base cordate to rounded, margin entire or almost so, when juvenile irregularly lobed to divided; both surfaces glabrous to sparsely puberulous, smooth or scabridulous, when juvenile white hirsute to hirtellous, often scabrous; lateral veins (5–)8–13 pairs or often more when young; petiole 1–5 cm. long, 1–2 mm. thick; stipules 0.3–0.7 cm. long, puberulous or partly hirsute, caducous.
    Infructescences
    Figs solitary or in pairs in the leaf axils; peduncle 0.3–1 cm. long; basal bracts ± 2 mm. long, persistent. Wall of fruiting fig 1.5 mm. thick when dry, firm.
    Receptacle
    Receptacle globose to obovoid, ± 2 cm. in diameter when fresh, ± 1.5 cm. when dry, puberulous, yellow at maturity.
    Habitat
    Forest, pioneer of cleared areas; 900–1200 m.
    Distribution
    T4 U2 U4 extending to S. Sudan, Angola and Camerounalso in W. Africa (e.g. in Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone)
